COD Women’s Volleyball celebrates Sophomore Night with sweep of Wolverines, 3-0

COD (14-8; 9-0) celebrated Sophomore Night by grabbing their tenth sweep of the season, this time their victim was the hapless San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (3-18; 3-6), 3-0 (25-9, 25-5, 25-16).

Freshman outside hitter Grace Abrams (Fountain Hills (AZ) H.S.) had 4 kills, a service ace and 3 digs and freshman libero Briana Delval (Indio H.S.) led the team with 13 digs and had 3 service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Caitlin Bilhartz (Bowling Green, MO) led the team with 3 assist blocks, had 3 kills and 2 service aces and sophomore middle blocker Katie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) had 4 kills, a solo block and 2 service aces. Sophomore setter Kianna Diaz (Palm Desert H.S.) led the team with 33 set assists, had 9 digs and 3 service aces and freshman outside hitter Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) had 5 kills, a service ace and an assist block. Sophomore outside hitter Kaila Sandy (La Quinta H.S.) led the team with 13 kills, had 3 service aces, a solo block and an assist block.

The Roadrunners first game in program history against the San Bernardino Wolverines was back in 1976. Since the Roadrunners first encounter against San Bernardino, Desert has a 34-28 all-time record against the Wolverines, including a 17-14 record in Palm Desert. Roadrunners have not lost to San Bernardino Valley since October 9, 2013. Over the course of their current 17 match winning streak over the Wolverines, Desert has a very positive 49-4 set record over San Bernardino Valley. The Roadrunners will travel to Rancho Cucamonga for their next contest, as Desert faces off with the Chaffey Panthers on Monday, November 14th. The Roadrunners first competed against Chaffey in 1976 and holds a 29-31 overall record against the Panthers, with a 10-18 record in Rancho Cucamonga.
