COD (9-12; 5-4) grabbed their fifth sweep of the 2023 season and it was golden as head coach Detlev Rothe continued his run of being the most successful coach in Desert Volleyball history, by securing a milestone 100th career coaching win.

The Roadrunners had 3 players set season highs as they traveled to Joshua Tree and knocked off the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti (0-11; 0-8), 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-19).

The Roadrunners played against Copper Mountain for the first time in program history in 2022 and hold a 3-0 overall record against them. The Roadrunners hold a 2-0 record against the Fighting Cacti in Joshua Tree.

Freshman outside hitter Arianna Hernandez (Thermal Desert Mirage) set a season high for kills, leading the team with 10 on the night and freshman setter Ashley Estrada (Queen Creek (AZ) American Leadership Academy) had her third-best set assists night of the season with 28, while collecting 6 digs. Freshman middle blocker Stacie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) had a season high 3 service aces, grabbed 6 kills, 2 assist blocks and a solo block and sophomore outside hitter Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) tied her second-best service aces night of the season with 3, while collecting 7 kills. Freshman setter Vivianna Hernandez (Thermal Desert Mirage) tied a season high in digs with 4, while helping wit 5 set assists and freshman defensive specialist Itzel Solorio (Twentynine Palms H.S.) had a season high 6 digs. Sophomore libero Briana Delval (Indio H.S.) had her third-best service aces night of the season with 4, while collecting 4 digs.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home hosting the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti of Joshua Tree on November 1. The Roadrunners played against Copper Mountain for the first time in program history in 2022 and hold a 3-0 overall record against the Fighting Cacti. Desert has a 1-0 record against the Fighting Cacti in Palm Desert.
