Brian Sylva, hired in October 2016 to lead the College of the Desert sports information department after nine years in charge at San Bernardino Valley College. Mr. Sylva is the main contact for women’s volleyball, football, women's and men’s golf, women’s and men’s soccer, women’s and men’s cross country, women’s and men’s basketball, baseball, women’s and men’s tennis, beach volleyball and softball.

He has honed his craft within the field of Sports Information, using marketing strategies and social media campaigns learned while chief strategist to many local and statewide political races and nearly a decade as a reporter for the Riverside Press-Enterprise covering High School and Community College sports.

Mr. Sylva formally sat on the Executive Board of the Foothill Athletic Conference as the Conference Director of Sports Information which until July 2016, represented seven member schools. Of the 115 Community College's in the state of California, 104 have an athletics program, Mr. Sylva is one of 27 full time SID's in the entire state at the Community College level.

Mr. Sylva was elected President Elect for the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) in June of 2014 and was seated as President of the CCCSIA in August of 2017. He has served as the judge of the State Student Athlete of the Month award on multiple occasions since 2007. Mr. Sylva served as the Sports Information Director for the 2019 CCCAA Beach Volleyball Team and Pairs State Championship. In addition, he has served as the head announcer for the 2019 CCCAA Women’s Volleyball State Championship and was the on-site Sports Information Assistant for the 2009 CCCAA Men’s Golf State Championship. Mr. Sylva was also the head media liaison for SBVC at the 2010 Men’s Basketball CCCAA State Championship.

Mr. Sylva, a longtime resident of the Inland Empire, has established long-standing civic ties to the community. He sees voluntary public service as a great way to give back to his community and prior to his November 2020 election to the Mt. San Jacinto Community College District Board, Mr. Sylva was elected to the Board of Trustees for the Beaumont Unified School District in November 2016.

Mr. Sylva was also the President of the Board of Directors for the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce from 2016 to 2019 and was a member of the Board of Directors for the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital Healthcare District from 2014 to 2017.

In April of 2022, Mr. Sylva was presented with a lifetime achievement award by the California Community College Sports Information Association, the CCCSIA, at the CCCAA Spring Convention “Honoring Our Own” Luncheon. The award is named the B.R.A.S.S. T.O.P. Award. The acronym B.R.A.S.S. T.O.P. stands for “Bringing Respect and Superior Service to Our Profession.” The CCCSIA is the professional service organization he is a member of within Community College Athletics.
