PALM DESERT Calif. - Freshman Monica Monay's (Palm Desert, CA/Cathedral City HS) free kick in the 62nd minute capped College of the Desert women's soccer's 3-2 comeback over Victor Valley in their final home contest of the 2015 season Friday afternoon in Palm Desert.
Down 1-0 in the first half, freshman Lidia Sanchez (Indio, CA/Indio HS) crashed the goalmouth to finish off a rebound shot by freshman Cynthia Hernandez (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS). The Lady Roadrunners then took a 2-1 when freshman Madison Decker (Palm Desert, CA/Aquinas) chased down and finished a nice pass from fellow freshman, Yesenia Barroso (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS).
After Victor Valley tied the score just before the half, Monay's free kick from 35 yards out served as the game-winner. Freshman goalkeeper Brianna Lazzarini (Indio, CA/La Quinta HS) made all the key saves when necessary in goal for the Lady Roadrunners, notching six of them.
College of the Desert (8-11-1, 1-6) travels to Rio Hondo next Tuesday, November 10 for their final match of the 2015 season. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
