COD Baseball wins in Costa Mesa for 1st time since 1995

COD (14-14) received another complete game shut out by Braden Turner, as the Roadrunners broke a 29-year road win curse, beating the Orange Coast Pirates of Costa Mesa (12-16), 1-0.

The historical significance of this road win cannot be understated as Desert has defeated the Pirates in Palm Desert multiple times in the intervening 29-year road drought, the most recent win over Orange Coast was a 5-4 win at home on February 20, 2017.

Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Braden Turner (Henderson (NV) Basic Academy) pitched an absolute gem of a complete game, for his second complete game shutout of his career. He gave up 5 hits, walking one and striking out 6 for his sixth win of the season.

The Roadrunners would score their lone run in the top of the fourth, when freshman left fielder Samuele Bruno (Nettuno (Italy) Foro Italico Univeristy) led off the inning with a double to center and sophomore third baseman Eric Arreola (South Gate International Studies Learning Center) followed that up with a single to left. Sophomore first baseman Devin Lopez (Vail (AZ) Cienega) would bring Bruno home on a single to left.

The next contest for Desert is a non-Conference game at home on Friday, March 29th beginning at 12p, as the Roadrunners make up a contest with the Compton Tartars.
