COD Baseball back even after win over Tartars, 9-4

COD (3-3) fought their way back to .500 on the season with another come from behind victory, this time over the winless Compton Tartars (0-5), 9-4.
Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher James Williams (Perris Citrus Hill) tossed six solid innings grabbing a pair of strike outs in his first win of the season. Freshman right-handed relief pitcher Joseph Cook (Rockford (MN) H.S.), sophomore right-handed relief pitcher Cristian Garcia (Chandler (AZ) H.S.) and sophomore right-handed relief pitcher Ty Phipps (Blythe Palo Verde Valley) each tossed an inning of relief in the win. Sophomore shortstop Michael Gonsalez (Harbor City Narbonne) went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in out of the nine hole. Sophomore second baseman Victor Esquivel Perez (Yucatan, MEX) went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI out of the clean-up spot. Freshman pinch hitter Garrett Houston (Melville (SK) Comprehensive School) had one of the most consequential at bats of the game, as he bunted in the fifth which led to a bases clearing 3 base error by the Tartars third baseman to give the Roadrunners the lead.
The next game for the Roadrunners is at home against the Los Angeles Mission Eagles of Sylmar on Thursday, February 6 at 1p.
