COD Baseball continues dominance of Vikings, 19-1

COD (8-7; 2-2) were the victim of 10 hit by pitches and the benefactors of 9 walks, as the Roadrunners dominated from the start and sank the Barstow Vikings (2-15; 0-1), 19-1.

Since the 1992 season, the Roadrunners hold a 74-17 overall record against Barstow. Desert has a 39-6 record against the Vikings in Palm Desert. The last time the Vikings were victorious in Palm Desert was on February 24, 2015, where the Roadrunners fell, 5-4, needless to say, it has been rather lopsided ever since.

Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher James Williams (Perris Citrus Hill) grabbed his 2nd win of the season, tossing six solid innings of work, giving up a run on 3 hits and 3 walks, with 8 strike outs for his second-best single game strikeout total of the season. Freshman right fielder Derrick Thompson (Randallstown, Maryland) clobbered his first hit as a college player and it just so happened to be for a home run as he led off the bottom of the 4th. Sophomore designated hitter Jackson Martin (Regina (SK) Martin Collegiate) went 2 for 2 with a double and 4 runs batted in.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be on Thursday, February 27 at 2p as they travel to Barstow and then the three-game Inland Empire Athletic Conference series concludes with a home contest at Ted Hamilton Field against the Vikings on Saturday, March 1 at 1p.
