COD Baseball wins 6th straight, sweeps Rams, 3-0

COD (12-7; 6-2) grabbed their 6th consecutive win, 7th out of 8 games, using a pair of runs in the 3rd and a run in the 4th to sweep the 3-game series over the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (6-16; 3-6), 3-0.

Since 1992, the Roadrunners have a 78-16 overall record against Victor Valley, currently holding a 7 game winning streak over the Rams. Desert has a 37-9 record against the Rams in Palm Desert.

Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Caleb Ortiz (Indio Shadow Hills) grabbed his first start of the season and pitched brilliantly, tossing 7 complete, collecting season highs in innings pitched and strikeouts (7). Sophomore right-handed relief pitcher Cristian Garcia (Chandler (AZ) H.S.) and sophomore right-handed relief pitcher Colin Plain (Saskatoon (SK) Walter Murray Collegiate) combined to hold onto the shutout. Sophomore shortstop Michael Gonsalez (Harbor City Narbonne) collected his 8th multi-hit game of the season, going 2 for 4 with a run scored out of the leadoff spot. Freshman center fielder Connor Martin (Abbotsford (BC) Yale Secondary) grabbed his 7th multi-hit game and second of the series, going 2 for 4 with a run scored and a run batted in out of the 2-hole in the lineup.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home, hosting the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday, March 11 at 12:30p. Since 1992, the Roadrunners have a 19-81 overall record against Chaffey. Desert has a 13-35 record against the Panthers in Palm Desert.
