COD (14-9; 8-4) kept up the momentum in the Conference title race, as the Roadrunners jumped out to an early lead and held on, grabbing a huge win over the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (9-14; 7-3), 8-4.
The Roadrunners were looking for their first win over Mt. San Jacinto since April 22, 2023, after the Eagles swept all 4 games during the 2024 season. Since 1992, the Roadrunners have a 48-46 overall record against Mt. San Jacinto. Desert has a 26-22 record against the Eagles in Palm Desert.
Desert jumped out to an early lead, scoring 3 runs in the first, then 2 more runs in the fourth and fifth innings, before the Eagles started to creep back into the game, eventually closing the door in the top of the eighth. Sophomore right-handed relief pitcher Cristian Garcia (Chandler (AZ) H.S.) tossed the final two innings, grabbing 3 strikeouts and locking down the win. Freshman third baseman Kayden Dawson (Olympia (WA) Capital) was a defensive replacement in the 8th and made his presence felt immediately, making multiple big defensive plays in the field to hold the win.
The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be on the road, as Desert travels to San Jacinto to take on the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles on Thursday, March 20 at 2p. The next home game for the Roadrunners is on Saturday, March 22 at 1p as Desert wraps up the three-game series with the Eagles.
