COD Men’s Basketball grabs 3 double-doubles in close win over Monarchs, 80-72

COD (4-7) traveled to Santa Barbara for the SBCC Holiday Classic, where the Roadrunners dropped game one, then fought back to win game two and fell in the Consolation Final.

In game two of the tournament, the Roadrunners faced off with the Los Angeles Valley Monarchs of Valley Glen (2-5). Desert would find themselves with a 10-point lead at the half, 38-28, carrying that lead to an 80-72 win for their fourth win of the season. Four starters would score in double figures and three of those starters would grab double-doubles.

Sophomore starting forward Jermayn Baxter (Indianapolis (IN) Decatur Central) collected his second double-double of the season, leading the Roadrunners with 22 points on 9 of 16 shooting, going a near perfect 4 of 5 from the free throw line and grabbing 12 total rebounds, all 12 were defensive boards, also tying a season best by snagging 3 steals. Freshman starting guard Jamerson McClendon (Indio H.S.) collected his first double-double of the season, scoring a season high 19 points on 6 of 11 shooting, going an incredible 7 of 11 from the charity stripe and grabbing 14 total boards, 7 of them defensive, knocking away 2 blocked shots and also tying a season best by dishing out 5 assists.

Freshman starting center Sedrick Johnson (Phoenix (AZ) Skyline Prep) also collected his first double-double of the season, scoring a season high 10 points on 5 of 11 shooting and grabbing 10 total rebounds, 3 defensive. Sophomore starting guard Luke Mathis (Redlands East Valley) scored 11 points on 3 of 9 shooting from beyond three-point range and freshman forward Wilfred Weir (Murrieta Valley) added 9 points off of the bench, going 4 of 6 from the free throw line, leading the team in blocked shots with 3. Sophomore guard Isaiah Goad (Palm Springs H.S.) had a season high 5 assists and sophomore forward Christopher Dodge (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) knocked away 2 blocked shots.

The Roadrunners next game will be on the road as they face the Glendale Vaqueros on Saturday, December 16 at 4:30p and the next home game for Desert will be on Wednesday, December 20 at 7p as the Roadrunners open up Inland Empire Athletic Conference play against the Palo Verde Pirates of Blythe.
