COD Men’s Basketball wins in OT over Fighting Cacti, 87-86

COD (10-13; 5-6) had two players combine for 52 of their 87 points on the night, as the Roadrunners pulled out a close one in overtime, knocking off the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti of Joshua Tree (7-16; 3-8), 87-86.

Sophomore starting guard Isaiah Goad (Palm Springs H.S.) led the way for the Roadrunners, scoring 27 points by connecting on 5 of 8 shots from beyond the arc, dishing out 5 assists and snagging a steal. Freshman starting forward Wilfred Weir (Murrieta Valley) had 25 points on 11 of 24 shooting from the field, also dishing out 5 assists, all while swatting away a blocked shot.

Sophomore starting forward Trevon Batts (Las Vegas (NV) Chaparral) led the team with 12 total rebounds, 10 defensive and was 4 of 6 from the free throw line, while grabbing a steal and a blocked shot. Freshman guard Jamerson McClendon (Indio H.S.) added 10 points on 4 of 6 shooting, grabbing 9 boards, 6 defensive and a blocked shot. Sophomore guard Luke Mathis (Redlands East Valley) went 3 for 4 from the charity stripe, leading the team in assists with 6 and grabbing a steal.

The Roadrunners next 4 games will be on the road as they continue Conference play by facing the Barstow Vikings on Saturday, January 10 at 3p and the next home game for Desert will be Sophomore Night on Friday, January 23 at 7p as the Roadrunners host the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville.
