Zhang's remarkable journey began on the courts of COD and has since led him to impressive achievements, including earning a scholarship to play for San Diego Christian College and signing with Hainan Haixiang Walrus Basketball Club, the first professional team in the Hainan province, before making his mark in the BSL. During his time at COD, Zhang was widely recognized for his skills, work ethic, and leadership on the court. The college's competitive environment and strong coaching staff were instrumental in helping him refine his game and prepare for the next stages of his career. His success at COD earned him a scholarship to San Diego Christian College, where he continued to excel on the court.
After exhausting his college eligibility, Zhang was signed by the Hainan Haixiang Walrus Basketball Club in China's National Basketball League (NBL). As a rookie, he made an immediate impact, starting for the Walrus and enjoying a successful first season with the club. His professional experience in China set the stage for his next big step—competing in Canada's top basketball league.
Zhang's historic achievement in the BSL is not only a personal triumph but also a proud moment for College of the Desert, whose athletics program helped shape his early career. The lessons he learned at COD—discipline, resilience, and teamwork—continue to guide him as he forges his path in professional basketball.
As Zhang breaks new ground in Canadian basketball, he remains a proud COD alumnus, always carrying with him the values instilled during his time at the college. His journey is a powerful example of how hard work and a strong foundation can lead to extraordinary success.
