COD Men’s Basketball falls short in loss to Vaqueros, 69-63

COD (2-10) had 3 starters in double figures, but only received 4 points from the bench, as the Roadrunners fell to the Glendale Vaqueros (6-7), 69-63.

This is the Roadrunners 6th loss by 6 points or less this season.

Desert started out very strong, leading by as much as 8 points with 14:30 left in the first half, but the Vaqueros would go on a 7-0 run to close out the first half, taking the lead at the break 32-29. At the halfway point in the second half, the Roadrunners took their final lead of the game 48-47, but a Glendale 11-3 run over the course of the next 5 minutes put the game out of reach for the home side.

Desert was led by sophomore starting guard Wilfred Weir (Murrieta Valley) who had his 6th 25+ point game of the season, scoring 27 points on 10 of 18 shooting, including going 4 of 6 from the free theow line and tying a season high with three 3-pointers.  Sophomore starting forward Jamerson McClendon (Indio H.S.) had a career high with 16 total rebounds. Along with his 12 points, on 3 of 5 shooting and 6 of 9 from the charity stripe, gave McClendon his 2nd double-double of the season. Freshman starting guard Jayden Creavalle (Palm Springs H.S.) added 12 points on 4 of 13 shooting and sophomore guard Justin McWay (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) set a career high with 5 assists.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be on Saturday, January 4 at 3p as they travel to the Barstow Vikings (2-10; 0-1). Desert has swept Barstow the past two seasons.
