COD Men’s Basketball sinks Pirates, 91-85

COD (3-14; 1-5) had three starters in double figures, as the Roadrunners win their first home game of the season and their first IEAC game of the season, knocking off the Palo Verde Pirates of Blythe (7-11; 2-4), 91-85.

Desert only shot 4 of 16 (25%) from beyond the arc in the first half and found themselves down a point at halftime, 41-40. The second half start was delayed due to a false fire alarm, but once play began, the Roadrunners found a new gear, as they went 7 for 11 (63.6%) from 3-point range in the second half.

Freshman starting guard Jayden Creavalle (Palm Springs H.S.) led the Roadrunners with a season high 31 point performance and his first double-double of the season. Creavalle went 11 of 23 from the field and tied a season high for made 3-point shots by going 5 for 13. He also led the team in steals (3) and grabbed 11 total rebounds, 9 defensive, all while going a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Sophomore starting guard Wilfred Weir (Murrieta Valley) had his 12th 25+ point game of the season, scoring 26 points on 10 of 22 shooting and going 4 for 9 from 3-point range. He also led the team in blocks with 3 and grabbed 7 boards. Freshman starting forward Stephen Shuffleton (Palm Desert H.S.) had his 3rd 15+ point performance of the season, scoring 17 points on 8 of 15 shooting and grabbing 8 boards. Sophomore starting forward Jamerson McClendon (Indio H.S.) had a career high 10 assist performance and almost had his 3rd double-double of the season, missing the feat by a rebound, grabbing 9 boards on the afternoon. Sophomore guard Jaylen Carter (Dearborn Heights (MI) Robichaud) was the leading scorer off of the bench, adding 4 points, 5 assists and 2 steals.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be on Wednesday, January 22 at 7p as they host the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (6-12; 1-5).
