COD (2-2-1) grabbed their second clean sheet of the season on a solid defensive effort, as the Roadrunners remain undefeated against the Bakersfield Renegades (2-3), 2-0.

The Roadrunners played against the Bakersfield Renegades for the first time in program history in 2019 and hold a 3-0 overall record against the Renegades. Desert has a 2-0 record against the Renegades at home.

Freshman starting goal keeper Samuel Guzman (Beaumont H.S.) had an amazing first half making four saves and keeping the game at a draw and freshman goal keeper Thomas Knox (La Quinta H.S.) wrapped up the game with an equally impressive effort in the second half.

Both teams went into the break tied with no score 0-0, then Desert broke the seal, as freshman midfielder Hector Baltierra (La Quinta H.S.) found the back of the net in the 50th minute for his team leading third goal of the season, giving the home side a 1-0 advantage. In the 59th minute, freshman forward Jeffrey Vazquez (Thermal Desert Mirage) took a free kick and lobbed it into sophomore defender Aidan Brothers (La Quinta H.S.) who scored his second goal of the season, giving the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home against the San Diego Mesa Olympians of Clairemont Mesa on Tuesday, September 10 at 5:30p. The Roadrunners first competed against San Diego Mesa in 1982 and hold a 12-19-4 overall record against them. Desert has a 6-9-3 record against the Olympians in Palm Desert. The most recent time the Roadrunners played San Diego Mesa was in 2023, where Desert knocked off the Olympians, 2-0 on September 1 in Clairemont Mesa. Sophomore goal keeper Luis Lucio (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) was in net for his first clean sheet of the 2023 season.
