Softball Earns Second Consecutive Win in Defeating Barstow, 7-6

BARSTOW Calif. -- College of the Desert softball (6-12-1, 2-0) scored five runs in the game's final three innings on their way to a 7-6 (8 innings) Foothill Conference win against Barstow (5-16, 1-1) yesterday afternoon in Barstow.  

Sophomores Amanda Martinez (Indio HS) and Brianna Alcorn (Indio HS) led the Lady Roadrunner offense with two hits each, while freshman Marlene Paniagua (Indio HS) and sophomore Liz Moreno recorded RBIs.  Coach Jen Banford's squad benefitted from 11 Barstow errors, and scored five unanswered runs to earn the come-from-behind victory.  

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Yizel Nunez (Beaumont HS) allowed one earned run over her three innings as the COD starter, with freshman right-hander Angelika Cabanyog (Shadow Hills HS) earning the win by allowing two runs on seven hits over her five innings of relief work.  

College of the Desert softball travels to Chaffey on Friday afternoon for a pair of Foothill Conference games.  First pitch of game one is set for 9 a.m.
