Softball Drops Pair of Foothill Matchups at San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- College of the Desert softball (6-21-1, 2-7) fell 3-2 and 10-2 in a double-header matchup with Foothill Conference foe, San Bernardino (12-21, 7-4), yesterday afternoon in San Bernardino. 

The Lady Roadrunners led 2-0 in the third inning of game one, with sophomore Yizel Nunez (Beaumont HS) scoring the opening run on a passed ball.  Then, sophomore Taylor Stone (Palm Desert HS) followed with an RBI single to right field, plating sophomore Kalen Gopperton (Cajon HS).  

Sophomore Amanda Martinez (Indio HS) suffered the loss on the mound, pitching four innings of eight-hit ball.  She allowed just three runs, while striking out one.

In game two, the Lady Roadrunners again jumped out to a 2-0 lead, as they plated two runs in the game's first inning.  Taylor Stone's RBI double scored Yizel Nunez, who had reached via a double to center field.  Freshman Darbie Catalfamo (Shadow Hills HS) followed with an RBI single to center, scoring Gopperton.

Freshman Angelika Cabanyog (Shadow Hills HS) allowed eight runs on 12 hits over her three innings of duty, while striking out one.

College of the Desert softball will return to action this afternoon when they host Chaffey in a 3 p.m. Foothill Conference matchup.
