COD Softball remains undefeated, rolls past Desert Warriors, 5-3

COD (5-0) once again showed their resiliency as they fought back from behind twice to remain undefeated, as Desert came from behind to sneak past the Imperial Valley Desert Warriors (2-4), 5-3.

The Roadrunners played against Imperial Valley for the first time in program history in 1985, back when they were known as the Arabs, and hold a 36-15 overall record against the Desert Warriors. Desert has a 14-6 record against the Desert Warriors in Palm Desert.

Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Victoria Talamantes (La Quinta H.S.) tossed a gem, tossing a perfect 2nd-5th-6th-7th innings, getting the final 11 outs in a row, to secure her 3rd win of the season, keeping her and Desert undefeated so far in 2025. Freshman shortstop Mia Villalobos (Thermal Coachella Valley) scored the winning run in the sixth, reaching base on a one out walk, then stealing second, then scoring on a double to center by freshman right fielder Alyssa Martinez Sanchez (La Quinta H.S.). Freshman third baseman Sidney Sherrod from Palm Desert H.S., reached on an infield single, stole second, moved to third on a single to center by freshman first baseman Tatiana Salinas (Rancho Mirage H.S.), then scored on a sacrifice fly to the shortstop by sophomore catcher Jaylene Ramos (Yucca Valley H.S.).

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be on the road Saturday, February 8 at 12p and 2:30p as they travel to the Los Angeles Valley Monarchs of Valley Glen (1-5-1). The Roadrunners played against Los Angeles Valley for the first time in program history in 1988 and hold a 3-10 overall record against the Monarchs. Desert has not played the Monarchs since 2020, which was also the last time the Roadrunners defeated LA Valley. Desert has an 0-6 record against the Monarchs in Valley Glen. The next home match-up for the Roadrunners will be on Saturday, February 15 at 1p and 3:30p as they host the Los Angeles Harbor Seahawks of Wilmington (2-3). The Roadrunners played against LA Harbor for the first time in program history in 1988 and hold a 2-8 overall record against the Seahawks. Desert last played the Seahawks in 2023, but has not defeated LA Harbor since 2015. Desert has a 1-4 record against the Seahawks in Palm Desert.
