COD Women’s Basketball grabs IEAC road win over Vikings, 76-49

COD (3-9; 1-1) grabbed their first IEAC win since 2022 as they won on the road, knocking off the Barstow Vikings (1-13; 0-2), 76-49.
Leading the way for the Roadrunners was freshman starting guard Audrey Tijerina (La Quinta H.S.), who had her 2nd 25+ point performance of the season, scoring 26 points on 9 of 24 shooting, including going 6 for 11 from the free throw line, adding 6 steals.
Freshman starting guard Giovanna Espinoza (La Quinta H.S.), who had her 7th 20+ point performance and 3rd double-double of the season. Espinoza scored 22 points on 7 of 21 shooting, going 3 for 9 from beyond 3-point range and shooting a near perfect 5 for 6 from the charity stripe. She led the team in assists (8), steals (14) and blocks (1). Freshman starting guard Olivia Castaneda (Menifee Paloma Valley), who had her 2nd 15+ point performance of the season, scored 15 on 5 of 19 shooting and led in total rebounds with 9, 7 of those defensive all while grabbing 5 steals and handing out 4 assists. Sophomore starting guard Esperanza Figueroa (Thermal Coachella Valley), who had her 8th 10+ point performance of the season. Figueroa scored 15 points on 5 of 17 shooting, going 3 of 10 from beyond the arc, adding 8 total boards.
The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be on Wednesday, January 8 at 5p as they travel to the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (11-3; 2-0).
