COD Women’s Basketball sneaks by the Fighting Cacti, 54-53

COD (4-15; 2-7) had 3 starters in double figures, as the Roadrunners busted up a 6-game losing streak and avenged and earlier season loss by knocking off the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti of Joshua Tree (12-9; 4-5), 54-53.
Freshman guard Dominique Moreno (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) made her Roadrunners debut in front of a raucous crowd. Freshman starting guard Audrey Tijerina (La Quinta H.S.) had her 13th 15+ point game of the season, scoring 16 points on 5 of 20 shooting, going 4 of 16 from beyond 3-point range. Freshman starting guard Giovanna Espinoza (La Quinta H.S.) had her 11th 15+ point game of the season, scoring 15 points on 6 of 18 shooting, going 3 for 11 from beyond the arc and leading the team in steals with 7. Freshman guard Olivia Castaneda (Menifee Paloma Valley) added 11 points on 2 of 8 shooting, going a near perfect 7 for 9 from the free throw line and leading the team in assists with 6. Sophomore starting guard Esperanza Figueroa (Thermal Coachella Valley) added 9 points and led the team with 9 total rebounds.
The next game for the Roadrunners will be at home against the Barstow Vikings on Saturday, February 1 at 1p.
