COD Women’s Soccer grabs lopsided win over Desert Warriors, 8-0

COD (1-0) opened up the 2024 season hosting an early season regular, the Imperial Valley Desert Warriors (0-2), and the result was the same, a lopsided shutout, 8-0.

The Roadrunners played against the Imperial Valley Desert Warriors for the first time in program history in 1997, back when they were named the Arabs and hold a 30-2-1 overall record against the Desert Warriors. Desert has a 17-1 record against the Desert Warriors at home.

Within the first 6 minutes, Desert was up 3-0, by the end of the first half sophomore forward Amerie Felix (Thermal Desert Mirage) was 2/3rds the way to a hat trick and the score was 6-0. Freshman defender Layla Soto (Palm Springs H.S.) had a pair of assists on the afternoon.

Sophomore midfielder Ximena Perez-Anguiano (Indio Shadow Hills) and sophomore midfielder Ruby Segura (Rancho Mirage H.S.) each had goals. Sophomore forward Fabiana Zavala (Thermal Desert Mirage) and freshman forward Valarie Alomar (Rancho Mirage H.S.) also, each had goals. freshman defender Joselyn Benitez (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman midfielder Myla Faddis (Palm Desert H.S.) also, each had goals. 7 different players scored goals.

Sophomore midfielder Angelica Leal (Thermal Coachella Valley) and sophomore midfielder Eva Lupita Torres (Thermal Coachella Valley) each had an assist. Freshman midfielder Kimberly Arellano (Palm Springs H.S.) and sophomore midfielder Miranda Salcido (Indio Shadow Hills) also, each had an assist. Freshman midfielder Jimena Monje (Palm Desert H.S.) had an assist as well.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home against the Palomar Comets of San Marcos on Friday, August 30 at 5p. The Roadrunners first competed against Palomar in 1997 and hold a 4-9-2 overall record against them. Desert has a 3-3-1 record against the Comets in Palm Desert. The most recent time the Roadrunners played Palomar was in 2019, where Desert demolished the Comets, 7-0 on November 7. Freshman forward Ashley Murguia (Indio H.S.) had a pair of goals in that game to lead the Roadrunners.
