COD Women’s Soccer deflects Lasers in shutout, 2-0

COD (5-1) took their #15 state ranking against another team with only one loss and the Roadrunners were victorious in a clean sheet, grabbing the 5th consecutive win over the Irvine Valley Lasers (4-2), 2-0.

The Roadrunners played against the Irvine Valley Lasers for the first time in program history in 1997 and hold a 5-1 overall record against Irvine Valley. Desert has a 3-1 record against the Lasers at home. The most recent time the Roadrunners played Irvine Valley was in 2023, where Desert snuck by the Lasers, 2-1 on the road, to open the 2023 season on August 25, 2023. Prior to the 2023 meeting, the most recent time Irvine Valley faced the Roadrunners was 2004.

Freshman midfielder Myla Faddis (Palm Desert H.S.) wowed the home crowd with goals in the 24th and 79th minutes and freshman goal keeper Isabella Morrison (Palm Springs H.S.) made six saves in her first start of the season. sophomore midfielder Ximena Perez-Anguiano (Indio Shadow Hills) assisted on the first goal and sophomore midfielder Angelica Leal (Thermal Coachella Valley) assisted on the second.

The next match-up for the #15 Roadrunners will be at the Long Beach City Vikings (2-1-3) on Tuesday, September 24 at 2p. In the 27-year history of Desert Women's Soccer, this is the first recorded contest versus Long Beach City.
