COD Women’s Soccer will host #17 Moorpark 11/20 @ 2p in SoCal Playoffs

COD Women's Soccer has claimed the #16 seed and will host their first playoff game in program history in the opening round of the SoCal Regional playoffs.

The game will take place off of campus, at Hovley Soccer Park in the city of Palm Desert this Wednesday, November 20 at 2 p.m. The address for Hovley Soccer Park is 74735 Hovley Ln E, Palm Desert, CA 92260. The reason the game cannot take place on the campus of College of the Desert is due to the size requirements to host a home CCCAA Regional Playoff match. The dimensions for the soccer field at the Palm Desert campus are not large enough to accommodate for a home playoff game.

State Playoffs Ticket Prices are as follows: General Admission is $12. Faculty, Staff, Children Under 12, Adults 60+ & Students w/ Valid A.S. card are $8. There are no guest passes allowed.

Under the tutelage of second-year head coach Ramon Rivas, the #16 seeded Roadrunners Women's Soccer team ended the 2024 season claiming their 1st Conference championship and the first Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC) Coach of the Year award for a Desert head coach since 2018.

Rivas was awarded as Coach of the Year finishing the regular season tying the best overall record in program history with a 16-2-3 record and the first undefeated record in Conference history at 7-0-3. The Roadrunners tied for 1st in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC) winning the first Conference Championship in program history and hosting their first 3C2A SoCal Regional Playoff game in program history.

The Roadrunners wrapped up the regular season undefeated in their final 13 games. They were rewarded with the 16 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Desert will face off with a Moorpark Raiders team that finished the regular season with a record of 12-7, the Raiders ended the 2024 season in 4th place the Western State Conference – North Division (WSC-N) with a record of 7-5. The Raiders started the season 6-4 and have three wins in their last 5 games.

Moorpark finished the 2023 season in 3rd place the WSC-N with a record of 7-2-3, with an overall record of 11-8-4. The Raiders were most recently in the playoffs in the 2023 season entering the Southern California Regional's as the 19th seed, Moorpark lost at #14 Ventura in the first round of Regional's, 5-4 in penalty kicks. The Raiders are coached by Kai Werring in his 4th season.

This will mark the first time in program history that Desert and Moorpark have played against one another.

The winner of Wednesday's first-round contest will advance to the Regional Quarterfinals on Saturday (Nov. 23), traveling to Cypress to face the #1 seeded Cypress Chargers. The top 8 seeds were given a first-round bye. The Regional Semifinals will take place on Tuesday (Nov. 26) and the SoCal Regional Championship will take place on Saturday, November 30. Four wins are needed to advance to the CCCAA Soccer State Championship on Dec. 6 & Dec. 8 at American River College in Northeast Sacramento.
