Women's Tennis Advances in Southern California Regionals Following 5-1 Win Over Orange Coast
COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Fifth-seeded College of the Desert women's tennis (10-3) cruised to a 5-1 victory over third-seeded Orange Coast (13-3) in the first round of the Southern California Regionals yesterday afternoon in Costa Mesa.
Freshmen Lauren Joy (Palm Desert HS) and Diana Cole (Sheridan HS, WY) earned an 8-4 doubles victory, while sophomore Karen Rodas (Palm Springs HS) and freshman Miyako Kinoshita (La Quinta HS) picked up a 9-7 win. Joy (6-0, 6-2), Cole (6-2, 6-1) and Kinoshita (6-0, 6-0) would also earn wins in their singles matches, while freshman Linda Guerzize (CNED, FR), sophomore Yu Yamada (Yamamotogakuen, JP) and Karen Rodas did not finish their singles competitions due to the Lady Roadrunners clinching the match.
College of the Desert women's tennis advances to face the number two seed, Glendale (14-3), on Tuesday, April 12. Match time is currently TBA.
