Women’s Beach Volleyball sweeps the Knights in PCAC opener, 5-0

COD (7-1; 1-0) opened Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play by traveling to San Diego to face off against the San Diego City Knights (7-5; 0-1) and the San Diego State University Aztecs club team.

Kicking off the day for Desert, the "ones" team of sophomore Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Kelsey Smith (Delta, BC South Delta Secondary) took down the Knights in an extra set, 21-15, 14-21, and 18-16. Continuing the sweep for the Roadrunners, the "twos" team of freshman Taylor Adair (Yucca Valley H.S.) and freshman Kathleen Geiberger (Palm Desert H.S.) won in straight sets, 21-15 and 21-18. The "threes" team of freshman Kendal Faynor (British Columbia Semiahoo Secondary) and sophomore Naomi Garcia (Rancho Mirage H.S.) took the win easily in two sets, 21-13 and 21-14. The "fours" team of sophomore Shay Mesa (Indio Shadow Hills) and sophomore Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) collapsed San Diego City in straight sets, 21-12 and 21-16. Securing the 5-0 sweep of the Knights, the "fives" team of sophomore Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) and sophomore Emily Sundback (Rancho Mirage H.S.) also won in two sets, 21-16 and 21-12.

In the non-conference match against the San Diego State University club volleyball team, the Roadrunners continued with the same energy as they took down the Aztecs, 4-1. Once again the "ones" team of Lyneis and Smith easily won in two sets, 21-12 and 21-3. The "twos" team of Adair and Geiberger also won in straight sets, 21-13 and 21-12. The "threes" team of Faynor and Garcia overwhelmed their opponents in two set, 21-12 and 21-9. The "fours" team of Mesa and Svoboda claimed their second victory of the day easily in two sets, 21-8 and 21-10. Wrapping up the day for the Roadrunners, the "fives" team of Dashner and Sunback had a tough battled against the Aztecs, forcing the match into and extra set, but eventually fell, 14-21, 21-7, and 15-9.

The next home match for College of the Desert Beach Volleyball will be Friday, March 22nd beginning at 9 a.m., at the Civic Center Park, where they will meet once again in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play, the San Diego City Knights. Hope to see you there.
