Baseball Opens Season with Two-Game Split

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- College of the Desert baseball opened its 2016 on the road where they split a pair of games against Palomar and Orange Coast.

In their season-opening 7-3 win over Palomar, the Roadrunners were led on offense by sophomore first baseman Dalton Bidon and freshman catcher Travis Tanaka who each collected three hits.  Bidon drove in two runs, while Tanaka doubled in one himself.  Sophomores Cole Danielson and Dax Roerig, along with freshman Josh Celaya, each recorded an RBI. 

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jumpei Akanuma (1-0)earned the win on the mound for COD, striking out one through his five innings of four-hit work.  He surrendered three runs (one earned), and issued just one walk.  Freshman right-hander Jake Patterson struck out four in the game's final four frames, earning him his first save. 

College of the Desert (1-1) returns to action this Friday, February 3 for a 2 p.m. game at Riverside.
