Asuncion's Single in the 11th Lifts Baseball to Walk-Off Win

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Sophomore Dallas Asuncion (Honolulu, HI/Kalani HS) singled home sophomore Luc Powers-Hubbard in the bottom of the 11th inning, lifting College of the Desert baseball (4-12, 2-4) to a 4-3 Foothill Conference win over visiting Rio Hondo (7-10, 3-3) Saturday afternoon in Palm Desert.  

Sophomore DJ Hernandez (La Quinta, CA/La Quinta HS) led the Roadrunner offense with two hits, while freshmen Travis Tanaka (Honolulu, HI/St. Louis HS) and Louie Castellanos (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS) each collected one RBI.  Sophomores Dalton Bidon (Enumclaw, WA/Enumclaw HS) and Cole Danielson (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS), along with Powers-Hubbard, each drilled one hit.  

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jumpei Akanuma (Japan/Ritsumeikan HS) pitched 5.2 innings as head coach John Welker's starter, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits.  He struck out three and walked one.  Freshman right-hander Jake Patterson (Palm Desert, CA/Palm Desert HS) earned the win in relief of Akanuma, allowing just two hits in his 5.1 innings of work.  Patterson (2-3) did not allow a run, while striking out and walking three.  

College of the Desert baseball will travel to San Bernardino on Tuesday, March 15 for a 2:30 p.m. Foothill Conference matchup.
