Baseball Earns 12-2 Win Over San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- Sophomore right-hander Jumpei Akanuma (Japan/Ritsumeikan HS) threw nine innings and allowed just two runs as College of the Desert baseball (5-14, 3-6) blew past San Bernardino (11-9-1, 6-3) 12-2 on Saturday afternoon in San Bernardino.  

Sophomore Sean Romo (Honolulu, HI/Kalani HS) and freshman Travis Tanaka (Honolulu, Hi/St. Louis HS) both led the Roadrunners with three hits and one RBI, while sophomore DJ Hernandez (La Quinta, CA/La Quinta HS) collected two hits and two RBIs. Sophomores Cole Danielson (Cathedraly City, CA/Cathedral City HS) and Dallas Asuncion (Honolulu, HI/Kalani HS) each had two hits and scored two runs, with three RBIs coming for sophomore Luc Powers-Hubbard (Bonney Lake, WA/Sumner HS) on his home run in the seventh inning.

Three more COD hitters- sophomores Dalton Bidon (Enumclaw, WA/Enumclaw HS) and Tanner Olthoff (Oceanside, CA/El Camino HS), along with freshman Louie Castellanos (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS)- recorded an RBI.  Akanuma (2-4) earned the win and struck out five hitters  for head coach John Welker, while issuing just a lone walk.  

College of the Desert baseball returns home Tuesday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m. matchup with Foothill foe, Barstow.
