Baseball Continues Hot Hitting in 7-4 Win Over Barstow

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- College of the Desert baseball (5-14, 4-6) collected 12 hits en route to a 7-4 Foothill Conference win over visiting Barstow (8-12, 6-4) yesterday afternoon in Palm Desert.

After trailing 2-0, the Roadrunners struck back to tie the game in the second inning after RBIs from freshmen Trenton Covel (Palm Desert, CA/Xavier HS) and Louie Castellanos (Cathedraly City, CA/Cathedral City HS).  With two on and one out, sophomore Tanner Olthoff (Oceanside, CA/El Camino HS) drilled a single to left field that gave head coach John Welker's squad a 4-2 advantage.

COD tacked on three more runs, with RBIs coming from sophomores DJ Hernandez (La Quinta, CA/La Quinta HS) and Cole Danielson (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS), while sophomore Sean Romo (Honolulu, HI/Kalani HS) scored the third run after fellow sophomore, Dalton Bidon (Enumclaw, WA/Enumclaw HS), perfectly executed an extended rundown.

Covel finished  the day with three hits for the Roadrunners, while Romo and Danielson collected two each.  Sophomore left-hander Dallas Asuncion (Honolulu, HI/Kalani HS) allowed four runs on eight hits over his five innings of work, while striking out four in earning his first win.  Freshman right-hander Jake Patterson (Palm Desert, CA/Palm Desert HS) pitched four shutout innings in relief, striking out three.
