Baseball Gets Back on Track with 11-5 Win Over Victor Valley

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- College of the Desert baseball (11-18, 9-10) slugged their way to an 11-5 win over visiting Victor Valley (1-29, 0-19) in yesterday afternoon's Foothill Conference matchup in Palm Desert.  

Freshman Travis Tanaka (Honolulu, HI/St. Louis HS) led head coach John Welker's Roadrunners with a perfect day at the plate, collecting four hits, two runs and two RBI, while freshman Jason Nall (Los Angeles, CA/St. Bernard HS) went 4-5 with four RBI. 

Freshman Trenton Covel (Palm Desert, CA/Xavier HS) collected two hits and two RBI, with sophomores Sean Romo (Honolulu, HI/Kalani HS), DJ Hernandez (La Quinta, CA/La Quinta HS) and Luc Powers-Hubbard (Bonney Lake, WA/Sumner HS) adding one RBI each.  Fellow sophomore, Cole Danielson (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS), went 2-5, while sophomore Bobby Hoisington (Battleground, WA/Battleground HS) went 1-1 with two runs scored.  

Sophomore left-hander Dallas Asuncion (Honolulu, HI/Kalani HS) pitched five innings for COD, allowing four runs on six hits.  Asuncion (3-2) picked up the win, while also striking out two.  Freshman right-hander Jake Patterson (Palm Desert, CA/Palm Desert HS) picked up his third save of the season, pitching four innings of relief.  Patterson allowed just one run on two hits while striking out two.

College of the Desert baseball will be back in action Thursday afternoon when they travel to Victor Valley for a 2:30 p.m. Foothill Conference game.
