Baseball Falls 5-2 in Conference Matchup with Rio Hondo
WHITTIER, Calif. -- College of the Desert baseball (13-19, 11-11) saw their three-game winning streak snapped as they were beaten 5-2 by Rio Hondo (22-12, 17-5) in yesterday afternoon's Foothill Conference matchup in Whittier.
Sophomore DJ Hernandez (La Quinta, CA/La Quinta HS) led the Roadrunners on offense, going 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Bobby Hoisington (Battleground, WA/Battleground HS) went 1-3 with a double and a run scored, while four other COD hitters-- freshmen Travis Tanaka (Honolulu, HI/St. Louis HS), Louie Castellanos (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS) and Josh Celaya (La Quinta, CA/Xavier HS), along with sophomore Cole Danielson (Cathedral City, CA/Cathedral City HS)-- collected one hit apiece.
Sophomore left-hander Zackery Novis (Palm Desert, CA/Palm Desert HS) pitched all eight innings for head coach John Welker, allowing five runs on nine hits. Novis (3-4) struck out four and walked two.
College of the Desert baseball will look to even this week's series with Rio Hondo, as they host the 2:30 p.m. Foothill Conference matchup on Thursday afternoon.
