COD Baseball drops a close one to the Tigers, 4-2

COD (2-13) a day after losing in a walk-off, the Roadrunners looked to return the favor as Desert's Allan Dong busted up a perfect game bid in the seventh, but the team fell just short against the Riverside City Tigers (11-5), 4-2.

The Tigers would put two on the board in the top of the second and a run up in the top of the fifth and another run in the top half of the sixth, to make the score 4-0.

Dong, the sophomore short stop from Kalani H.S. in Honolulu, HI, would lead off the seventh inning with a single to center, breaking up the Tigers perfect game bid. A one out single to center by sophomore center fielder Travis Tanaka (Honolulu (HI) St. Louis) and a single to left by freshman third baseman Nicholas Follett (Toronto (ON) Bishop Allen Academy) loaded the bases as the Riverside City pitcher looked rattled. Freshman pinch hitter Quinton Bidon (Enumclaw, WA) punched a single to center field, scoring Dong and chasing the Tigers starter. Sophomore right fielder Trenton Covel (Palm Desert Xavier Prep) would line out to the Riverside City first baseman who attempted to double up Tanaka at home plate, but Tanaka flew in under the tag of the Tigers catcher and was called safe at the plate. Unfortunately, that would be the extent of the scoring on the afternoon for the Roadrunners.

Desert freshman starting right handed pitcher Robin Landazuri (Redlands H.S.) tossed six solid innings, surrendering four runs, three earned, on five hits, walking three and striking out five in the loss. Tanaka went 2 for 4 with a run scored in the game.
