COD Baseball can’t hold onto lead against Olympians, falls 9-6

COD (10-27; 8-13) took an early lead and fought back many times throughout the contest, but a late outburst by the San Diego Mesa Olympians (15-20; 10-11) proved to be their undoing, falling 9-6.

The first three hitters for the Roadrunners went a combined 7 for 12 with three runs scored and a run batted in as sophomore center fielder Travis Tanaka (Honolulu (HI) St. Louis) was brilliant in the leadoff role, going 3 for 3 with a run scored and "setting the table" for all the batters that followed.

Freshman left fielder Austin Clifton (Romoland Heritage), hitting second went 2 for 4 with a run scored and sophomore designated hitter Jason Nall (Playa del Rey St. Bernard) went 2 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI on the afternoon.

Freshman catcher Julian Gonzalez (Palm Springs H.S.) went 2 for 5 with an RBI, hitting out of the six hole in the lineup and freshman short stop Allan Dong (Honolulu (HI) Kalani) went 2 for 2 with a run scored and a walk, hitting out of the seven hole.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Riley Owen (Tumwater, WA) tossed five strong innings pitched, surrendering five runs, all earned, five hits, four walks, striking out two in a no decision.
