COD Baseball sophomore right handed pitcher Riley Owen (Tumwater, WA) has signed a letter of intent with Texas A&M University – Texarkana.

In 2016, Owen made 12 pitching appearances with one start, logging 23 1/3 innings. His longest outing in 2017 was his April 22nd start at home against San Diego Mesa, where Owen pitched 5 innings. As of the time of this release, he has tossed 23 1/3 innings in 11 appearances.

Desert finished the 2016 season in fourth place in the Foothill Conference with a record of 11-13 and an overall record of 13-21. The Roadrunners started their inaugural year in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference in 2017 and, as of this release, are in seventh place with a record of 8-14 and an overall record of 10-28.

Owen stated that the level of competition at Desert and "The experiences with the guys on and off the field, were most of my positive experiences" commented Owen. "The reason I chose Texas A&M, Texarkana would be, to see another part of the country, further my education and I would have to say another higher level of playing down in the South."

According to the TAMUTeagles.com website, the Business Management major signed his letter of intent on November 29, 2016 and "earned 1st Team All-Evergreen League Pitcher (2015) and Honorable Mention All-Evergreen League Pitcher (2014). The Tumwater Thunderbirds finished in 2nd in 2A (2012), Advanced to the 2A State Tournament (2015), and finished 3rd in 2A (2013-2014). Owen hit .397 his Senior season which ranked him at #33 in the Top 48 for his high school's record books. Owen also played club ball for En Fuego Elite located in Seattle."

Texas A&M, Texarkana is located in Texarkana, Texas, which is about 6 miles west of the Texas-Arkansas border and about 175 miles east of Dallas. The Eagles play at George Dobson Field and the team is coached by 2nd year head coach, Steve Jones. In the 2017 season, the Eagles are 17-7 in conference play are currently tied for 2nd place, with an overall record of 21-12. Texas A&M Texarkana is in the Red River Athletic Conference of the NAIA.
