COD Baseball grabs season sweep in “road” win over Rams, 16-2

COD (18-15; 14-5) scored 13 of their 16 runs in the first 3 innings and the Roadrunners used 5 pitchers to toss a 2 hitter, as Desert swept the four game season series on the "road" over the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (6-24; 3-16), 16-2.

Since 1992, the Roadrunners hold a 75-16 overall record against Victor Valley. Desert holds a 36-9 record against the Rams in Palm Desert.

Freshman center fielder Jackson Martin (Regina (SK) Martin Collegiate) batted out of the leadoff spot, going 1 for 2 with a pair of runs and sophomore center fielder Hunter Pinkston (Redding Shasta) would sub in during the top of the fourth, going 2 for 4 on the day. Freshman left fielder Samuele Bruno (Nettuno (Italy) Foro Italico Univeristy) batted out of the 3-hole in the lineup, going 2 for 3 for his 8th multi-hit game of the season and freshman designated hitter Trevor Stowe (Buffalo (WY) H.S.) hit out of the clean-up spot, going 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in. Sophomore third baseman Eric Arreola (South Gate International Studies Learning Center) went 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore first baseman Adam Moser (Peoria (AZ) Sunrise Mountain) returned to the lineup for the first time since March 19th and did not miss a beat, going 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Sophomore catcher Tyler Nelson (Corona Centennial) also went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and freshman catcher Cameron DeJournett (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) went 2 for 3, hitting his 1st home run of the season in the 7th, a solo shot to left. Sophomore shortstop Nicolas Ely (Salt Lake City (UT) Brighton) went 3 for 5 with a run scored and 2 RBIs.

Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Trevor Stowe (Buffalo (WY) H.S.) grabbed his 5th win of the season tossing 5 complete striking out 9 or more for the 4th time in 2024. Sophomore right-handed relief pitcher Eleazar Fregoso (Indio H.S.) and sophomore left-handed relief pitcher Anthony Sillas (Palm Desert H.S.) threw an inning each of relief, with Sillas collecting 2 punch outs. Freshman right-handed relief pitcher Kai Hanasaki (Kōfu (Japan) Yamanashi Gakuin) and sophomore right-handed relief pitcher Alan Gaber (Las Vegas (NV) Sierra Vista) both tossed an inning each and each had a strike out.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home on Thursday, April 11th at 2:30p when the Roadrunners will continue Inland Empire Athletic Conference play by hosting the Barstow Vikings. Since 1992, the Roadrunners hold a 72-17 overall record against Barstow. Desert holds a 37-6 record against the Vikings in Palm Desert.
