COD Football punishes the Wildcats on Sophomore Night, 51-20

COD (6-3; 3-1) rolled to their sixth win of the season, making the Roadrunners bowl eligible as the home side took an early lead and never looked back in a lopsided win over the West Los Angeles Wildcats of Culver City (1-8; 1-3), 51-20.

The Roadrunners competed against the West Los Angeles Wildcats of Culver City for the first time in program history in 1979, back when they were the Oilers, and have not faced one another since 2017, holding an 4-1 overall record against the Wildcats. The Roadrunners hold a 3-1 record against the Wildcats in Palm Desert. The most recent time the Roadrunners defeated West LA was in 2017, when the game was in Palm Desert and COD won, 24-15.

Sophomore wide receiver Frankie Valentino from Cathedral City H.S., had his 2nd best game of the season, grabbing 98 yards on 5 catches and a second quarter score and freshman kicker Dylan Armendariz from Palm Springs H.S. was perfect, connecting on a 35 yard field goal with 2:26 left in the third quarter and making all four of his extra point attempts. Sophomore linebacker Greyson Lafleur from Glacier Peak H.S. in Snohomish, Washington, had a great night terrorizing the visitors, grabbing 11 total tackles, assisting on nine, forcing a fumble and breaking up a pass.

The next contest for Desert is the final regular season game for 2023 and it takes place on Veteran's Day, Saturday, November 11th at 6:00p against the Santa Ana Dons at Santa Ana Stadium. The Roadrunners first played Santa Ana in 2010 and are winless in their four meetings against them. The Roadrunners hold an 0-2 record against the Dons in Santa Ana.
