COD Men’s Basketball: Skipper signs letter with Mayville

COD Men's Basketball guard Sam Skipper (Perris H.S.) has signed a letter of intent with Mayville State University.

The 6-2, 165 pound guard from Perris H.S. started 26 of 27 games for the Roadrunners, averaging 12.7 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game with a 70.2% free throw percentage in the 2019-20 season. The two year starter was a huge part of the turnaround of the Desert program. This past season, Skipper had four games where he scored 22 or more points and 19 games where he had double-digit points from the floor, leading to him being named an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection in the inaugural season of the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.

Skipper always produced in the biggest games, scoring a season high 25 at the Mt. San Antonio Mounties in the opening round of the Mt. SAC Mountie Classic on December 6th.

Mayville State University is located in Mayville, North Dakota, which is about 60 miles north of Fargo and about 300 miles northwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The MSU Comets play in the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse and the team is coached by 4th year head coach, Darren Tighe. During the 2019-20 season, the Comets were 11-3 in conference play finishing the season as Conference Champions, with an overall record of 24-5. Unfortunately, their bid to win an NAIA National Championship was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. MSU is in the North Star Athletic Association Conference of NAIA.
