COD Men’s Basketball: Baxter grabs triple-double in win over Vikings, 98-83

COD (8-8; 3-1) moved back to .500 on the season as Jermayn Baxter led the way with the Roadrunners first triple-double in over a decade, as Desert sank the Barstow Vikings (2-12; 1-3), 98-83.

Both teams would go into the break tied at 40, but then Desert would score over 50 points in a half for only the second time this season, dropping 58 points in the second half. The first time the Roadrunners scored over 50 points in a half was when they scored 53 points in the second half at Imperial Valley on November 27, 2023.

Sophomore starting forward Jermayn Baxter (Indianapolis (IN) Decatur Central) led all scorers with a season high 34 points on 13 of 22 shooting and going an amazing 7 for 8 from the free throw line enroute to the Roadrunners first triple-double in over a decade. Baxter would grab 13 total rebounds, 10 defensively and 10 assists in the win.

Sophomore starting guard Isaiah Goad (Palm Springs H.S.) almost secured his first double-double of the season, as he scored 16 points on 7 of 15 shooting and set a season high with 9 assists and sophomore starting guard Joseph Rojas (Palm Desert H.S.) added 15 points for his second-best effort of the season, on 4 of 15 shooting from three-point range, all while setting a season high for steals with 4. Freshman forward Wilfred Weir (Murrieta Valley) leapt off of the bench to score 12 points on 4 of 10 shooting, grabbing a season high 8 total boards, 4 defensive, and going a perfect 3 for 3 from the free throw line. Freshman starting center Sedrick Johnson (Phoenix (AZ) Skyline Prep) added 11 points on 4 of 6 shooting, going a near perfect 3 for 4 from the charity stripe, grabbing 8 total boards and swiping away 2 blocked shots and sophomore starting forward Trevon Batts (Las Vegas (NV) Chaparral) added a career high 6 assists in the win.

The Roadrunners next game will be at home on Friday, January 12 at 7p when they continue Conference play by hosting the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga.
