COD Men’s Golf: Smith signs letter with University of Illinois Springfield

COD Men's Golf sophomore Tyler Smith (Palm Desert H.S.) has signed a letter of intent with the University of Illinois Springfield.

The 5-9 golfer participated in seven matches in the 2018 season, in which he was a strong competitor in all. Smith averaged a 78-shot game, his best being a four-over 76 on February 14th at the Mt. San Jacinto Classic in Beaumont.

Smith was a big component in the Roadrunners season of success, helping them grab the PCAC title championship, April 30th holding a tie breaker edge over the second place team. The team traveled to Bakersfield on Monday, May 7th to participate in the Southern California Regionals tournament, where one player advanced to the State Finals.

The 2017-2018 season was Head Coach, Ken Simonds', first season with the Roadrunners.

University of Illinois Springfield is located in Springfield, Illinois. The UIS Prairie Stars are coached by Frank Marsaglia in his eighth season with the program. In the 2017-2018 season the Prairie Stars finished ninth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) championships of NCAA Division II.
