COD Men’s Golf welcomes Altman as new head coach

College of the Desert Men's Golf officially has a new head coach, as COD Faculty member, Nicholas Altman, now helms the program.

Altman, who also runs the Golf Management Program at College of the Desert, looks to return the Roadrunners to its rightful place as an elite California Community College program once Athletics resumes on the Palm Desert campus.

"Once we get back to competition, I am most looking forward to building a team culture and camaraderie with our student athletes," Coach Altman said in a recent interview with COD Athletics.com. "I am also looking forward to helping our student athletes reach their potential and play their best when it matters most."

The Roadrunners have won six State Titles since 1965, last winning it all in 2012, and 44 Conference Championships spanning the 55 years that COD has had a Men's Golf program. The Roadrunners compete in the Orange Empire Conference for Men's Golf.

Coach Altman was born and raised in the Coachella Valley and has played golf since he was eight years old. He has been a member of the PGA since 2012, a PGA Certified Instructor/Coach since 2015, where Coach Altman has been helping golfers improve their games since he joined the golf industry thirteen years ago.

"As a local kid, growing up in the Valley, I am extremely excited to be the Head Coach of this program. The Men's Golf team at COD has a long history of success, and we have a great talent pool of students and recruits to keep moving the program forward," commented Coach Altman. "I am happy that as both head coach and full-time faculty member in the Golf Management Program at COD, I will have the opportunity to be there for the athletes on the course and practice range as well as in the classroom and in their future career search."

Coach Altman has golf industry experience including as a Head Professional with Troon Golf, as a Director of Instruction with Topgolf, and as a Coach at the Golf Academy of America in Carlsbad, CA. He has coached junior golfers to regional and national tournament wins.

Coach Altman brings a wealth of golf knowledge and coaching experience to the Men's Golf Team at College of the Desert. He focuses on helping student athletes reach their potential by helping them to analyze their golf game holistically and to create a targeted training and improvement plan that will help bring out their best in competition.

Coach Altman is also a Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty member in the Golf Management Program at College of Desert. He stresses the importance of education for student athletes. Nicholas teaches courses in golf business, golf fundamentals, and how to teach the game. He attended Boston College where he received a BA in English and Philosophy.

"I want the recruits and their families to know that I am 100 percent committed to helping the students on their golf games as well as in their college career. As a full time, faculty member at the College, I will be able to dedicate my time to supporting our student-athletes on their journey to achieving their goals," continued Coach Altman. "The focus of everything we do will be about growth and improvement as golfers, students, and as people."
