COD Men's Soccer: Calderon Scores 4 Goals in Lopsided Win

COD (4-1-3) would score seven unanswered goals, five in the second half, four goals by Jose Calderon, Jr. alone as the Roadrunners grabbed their most lopsided win of the season, punishing the Imperial Valley Desert Warriors (0-4-2), 7-1.

The Roadrunners played against the Imperial Valley Desert Warriors (formerly Arabs) for the first time in program history in 1979 and hold a 32-12-3 overall record against the Desert Warriors. The most recent time these two teams met was in 2021 and Desert has a 21-3-1 record against the Desert Warriors at home.

Sophomore forward Jose Calderon, Jr. (Thermal Desert Mirage) struck in the 12th minute, tying the game 1-1 after Imperial Valley took an early lead the eighth minute. Leading 2-1 at halftime, Desert picked up a hat trick from Calderon in the second half when he found the back of the net in the 50th, 55th and 74th minutes. Freshman midfielder Malakai Martinez (Palm Springs H.S.) added two goals for COD while freshman midfielder Osvaldo Ramos-Lugo (La Quinta H.S.) scored the final goal.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home against the Santa Ana Dons on September 22 at 4p. The Roadrunners first competed against Santa Ana in 2007 and hold a 2-2 overall record against them. Desert has never hosted the Dons in Palm Desert.
