COD Men’s Tennis: Argote signs letter with Grand Canyon

COD Men's Tennis freshman Luis Mariano Argote (San Diego Grace Christian) has signed a letter of intent with Grand Canyon University.

The 5-11, 188-pound freshman from Grace Christian School in San Diego played one season with the defending State Champion Roadrunners, in helping lead Desert to back-to-back CCCAA State Championship matches. While the season was prematurely canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings COD was ranked the top team the state. The Roadrunners went 6-1 overall and were 4-0 in the Inland Empire Athletics Association before the season was canceled.

Argote was 3-1 on the 2020 season in singles play and 3-1 in doubles play, pared with freshman Joshua Wong (Rohnert Park Rancho Cotate in two of his three doubles wins.

Grand Canyon University is located in the Alhambra Neighborhood in the greater City of Phoenix, which is about six miles north of downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The GCU Antelopes play at the GCU Tennis Facility and the team is coached by 12-year veteran head coach, Greg Prudhomme. In the 2019 season, the Antelopes were 5-0 in conference play finishing 1st, with an overall record of 19-7. Grand Canyon University is in the Western Athletic Conference of the NCAA Division One.
