COD (11-0; 9-0) played in their most anticipated Conference match in years, but the result remained the same, a Roadrunners sweep, as Desert knocked off the San Diego City Knights (9-2; 7-2), 9-0.

The Knights came in to today's match riding a six game winning streak, only falling short once this season, a 9-0 loss to Desert at San Diego City on February 17. In that match, the Knights only played their second and fourth best players plus three bench players, today San Diego City brought everyone and the Roadrunners still swept them. One of the hottest days of the year in the Coachella Valley really took a toll on the Knights.

In doubles play, the team of freshman Marco Alvarez (Chula Vista Eastlake) and freshman Raymundo Chavez (Ensenada, BCN, Mexico) won in a contested match, 8-4. The team of freshman Eita Ishikawa (Yokkaichi, Japan) and freshman Jiaxi Ma (Irvine Woodbridge) took down the Knights, 8-3. The team of freshman Matthew Shaw (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) and freshman John Dick (Newport Beach Corona del Mar) also won in a close match, 8-4.

In singles play, the heat started to affect the visitors as the Roadrunners won their matches easily. Chavez and Ishikawa effortlessly won in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0. Shaw only allowed a single point in his dominate win against San Diego City, downing his Knights opponent in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1. Alvarez won his match 6-2 and 6-1, Ma won his match 6-1 and 6-2 and Dick won his match 6-1 and 6-3.

The next match for College of the Desert Men's Tennis will be at home against the Mt. San Antonio Mounties of Walnut where they will continue Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC) on March 17th at 2p.

College of the Desert defeated the San Diego City Knights, 9-0 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play at College of the Desert in Palm Desert.
