COD Men’s Tennis heads into Singles and Doubles State Championship

Desert won the team 2022 State Title on April 23, but this weekend, the Roadrunners head into another prestigious tournament in an attempt to grab the "Triple Crown" of Men's Tennis by winning the CCCAA Singles and Doubles Titles.

On the singles side, kicking off the tournament on Friday, May 6th at 9 a.m. on court 8 will be freshman Marco Alvarez (Chula Vista Eastlake) will take his #2 seed from the South and face off with the North #7 seed from the American River Beavers of Sacramento.

Should Alvarez advance, he will move onto the Round of 8 and face the winner of the San Diego City Knights #2 vs. the North #4 seed from the Chabot Gladiators of Hayward.

Later in the morning, freshman Raymundo Chavez (Ensenada (BCN, MX) Centro de Bachillerato Tecnologico Inds. Servicos (CBT is 41) will take his #3 seed in the South and open up against the North #6 seed from the Chabot Gladiators of Hayward.

Should Chavez advance, he will move onto the Round of 8 and face the winner of the American River Beavers #4 vs. the South #7 seed from the Glendale Vaqueros.

On the doubles side, all eyes will be on court 6 on Friday, May 6th at 3 p.m. as the team of freshman Eita Ishikawa (Yokkaichi (JPN) Yokkaichi Technical) and freshman Jiaxi Ma (Irvine Woodbridge) will take their #6 seed from the South into a rematch of their CCCAA State Final doubles match with the North #3 seed from the American River Beavers. At the State Championship, the Desert 3's of Ishikawa and Ma, dropped the Beavers 3's of freshman Justin Le (Antelope H.S.) and freshman D.J. Sobrepena (Rocklin H.S.), 8-2.

Should Ishikawa and Ma advance, they will move onto the Round of 8 and face the winner of the Irvine Valley Lasers vs. the Solano Falcons of Fairfield.

The team of Alvarez and Chavez have paired up 3 times, once in the opening round of the playoffs, winning all three matches. The Desert pair of Alvarez and Chavez will take their #3 seed in the South and open up with the #6 seed from the North, a doubles pair from the Foothill Owls of Los Altos Hills.

Should Alvarez and Chavez advance, they will move onto the Round of 8 and face the winner of the Ventura Pirates 3's team vs. the American River Beavers 2's team.
