COD Men’s Cross Country: Chio signs letter with San José State

COD Men's Cross Country runner Amelio Chio (Cathedral City H.S.) has signed a letter of intent with San José State University.

Chio, from Cathedral City H.S., was named All-Inland Empire Athletic Conference, after an impressive second place finish at the IEAC Championship at Xavier College Prep in Palm Desert on October 29. He would qualify for the CCCAA State Championships after a 52nd place finish at the CCCAA SoCal Regional Championship on November 5. Chio was the only Roadrunners representative at the representative at the State Finals, where he ran his 2nd best time of the season, 21:33.7 on the 4-mila course, finishing 63rd.

According to the San José State Track and Field Instagram account, Chio stated, "I chose San José State for the homey atmosphere I felt when I walked onto campus and met with the staff here. Coach Darden made me feel very comfortable and showed me around. I fell in love with downtown and the community."

California State University, San José is located in San José, California, which is about 50 miles southeast of San Francisco. The SJSU Spartans are coached by head coach, Charmaine Darden, in her 2nd season with the Spartans. In the 2021 season, the Spartans finished the season in 9th place at the Conference Final. SJSU is in the Mountain West Conference of NCAA – Division I.
