Softball Picks Up Pair of Home Wins

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- College of the Desert softball (4-10-1) scored two home wins as they defeated Golden West, 4-3 (2-7), and San Diego, 6-4 (7-7), Saturday afternoon in Palm Desert.  

In game one, sophomore Brianna Alcorn (Indio HS) led the Lady Roadrunner offense with three hits and two runs, while fellow sophomores, Jolene Ruiz (Indio HS) and Taylor Stone (Palm Desert HS), collected RBIs.  Freshman Angelika Cabanyog (Shadow Hills HS) earned the win on the mound for COD, allowing just three runs (one earned) on four hits over her seven innings of duty.  She also struck out six and walked just one.

Alcorn collected two more hits and scored another run in game two, with sophomore Amanda Martinez (Indio HS) collecting one hit and an RBI.  Sophomores Liz Moreno (Desert Hot Springs HS) and Yizel Nunez (Beaumont HS), along with Jolene Ruiz, smacked one hit each.  Nunez earned the win for the Lady Roadrunners, allowing four runs on seven hits over seven innings of action.  She also issued three walks.

College of the Desert softball will be back home next Saturday afternoon for a pair of games with Southwestern.  First pitch of game one is set for 12 p.m.
