Softball Drops Foothill Matchup to Visiting San Bernardino, 4-2

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- College of the Desert softball (6-19-1, 2-5) fell 4-2 in their Foothill Conference matchup against visiting San Bernardino (10-20, 5-4) yesterday afternoon in Palm Desert.  

After allowing three runs in the first inning, the Lady Roadrunners answered back with two runs in the home-half of the second.  Sophomore Taylor Stone (Palm Desert HS) opened with a walk, then advanced second on a single to left field by freshman Darbie Catalfamo (Shadow Hills HS).

Freshman Angelika Cabanyog (Shadow Hills HS) moved both runners up a base via her sacrifice bunt, with both coming in to score on a two-RBI double by freshman Genna Corral (Indio HS).  San Bernardino would tack on their fourth run in the fourth inning, however, holding on for the narrow victory.

Sophomores Amanda Martinez  (Indio HS), Kalen Gopperton (Cajon HS) and Jolene Ruiz (Indio HS) each collected one hit, while Angelika Cabanyog (2-9) pitched all seven innings for COD. She allowed four runs-- one earned-- on just four hits, while striking out two.  

College of  the Desert softball will travel to San Bernardino next Friday, April 8 for a pair of Foothill Conference games.  Their first matchup is set for begin at 12 p.m.
