Softball Wraps Up Season with Two Big Wins Over Victor Valley

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- College of the Desert softball (8-25-1, 4-11) ended its 2016 season on a high note, as they picked up a pair of Foothill Conference wins in defeating Victor Valley, 12-4 and 15-1, last Friday afternoon in Palm Desert.

In their 12-4 game one victory, the Lady Roadrunners were led on offense by a trio sophomores-- Jolene Ruiz (Indio HS), Kalen Gopperton (Cajon HS) and Liz Moreno (Desert Hot Springs HS)-- who each recorded two hits and two RBI.  Fellow sophomore, Yizel Nunez (Beaumont HS), scored two runs and drove in two more, while sophomore Taylor Stone (Palm Desert HS) went 1-2 with an RBI and run scored.  Two freshmen, Darbie Catalfamo (Shadow Hills HS) and Angelika Cabanyog (Shadow Hills HS), also recorded one RBI apiece.

Jolene Ruiz earned the win on the mound for COD, allowing four runs on nine hits through five innings of work.  She struck out six and walked two.

In game two, sophomore Amanda Martinez (Indio HS) went 1-1 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Jolene Ruiz, Taylor Stone and Angelika Cabanyog collected two RBI each.  Sophomore Brianna Alcorn (Indio HS) went 2-2 with an RBI and two runs, with Kalen Gopperton, Darbie Catalfamo and Liz Moreno adding RBIs, as well.

Angelika Cabanyog earned the win for the Lady Roadrunners, pitching four innings of two-hit ball.  She struck out seven and allowed just two hits.  

College of the Desert softball wraps up its 2016 season with a final record of 8-25-1 overall, while finishing 4-11 in the Foothill Conference.
