COD (0-4) opened up their first home stand of the 2017 season against the College of Southern Nevada Coyotes (3-4), sophomore left fielder Darbie Catalfamo (Indio Shadow Hills) was the only Roadrunner with an extra base hit as Desert fell in game one 11-0 and game two 7-1.

The Coyotes opened up game one with a two run top of the first and a two run top of the second and Desert did not reach base until a leadoff single to right by freshman left fielder Lexie Jackson (La Quinta H.S.) in the bottom of the third. 

In the fourth inning, Southern Nevada added two more runs to stretch their lead to 6-0 and in the bottom half of the frame sophomore right handed starting pitcher Yizel Nunez (Beaumont H.S.) punched a single to center field. The Coyotes would load the bases with one out, but the Roadrunners defense would hold, only allowing a run. Desert would put another runner on in their half of the fifth when Catalfamo and sophomore short stop Taylor Stone (Palm Desert H.S.) clobbered back-to-back singles. Unfortunately, that would be all the offense for the Roadrunners, as Southern Nevada added four more runs in the top of the sixth to force an 11-0 mercy. 

Nunez was handed her first loss of the season, surrendering 11 runs, 10 earned on 15 hits while walking two in her six innings of work.

In game two, Desert held their own, shutting down the same lineup that had worked so efficiently in the first game. Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Angelika Cabanyog (Indio Shadow Hills) stopped the Coyotes for 2 and two thirds innings, before Southern Nevada snuck a run across after an RBI single to right gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, the Roadrunners switched to sophomore left handed relief pitcher Amanda Martinez (Indio H.S.) and after a walk loaded the bases, a single to center scored two more runs for the Coyotes and they would add another to make the score 4-0.

Desert would not take this contest laying down as they clawed their way back into the game by scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman first baseman Keana Tolentino (Cathedral City H.S.) would clobber her first of two hits on the afternoon, punching a single to left field and after stealing second base, freshman pinch runner Anissa Madrid (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) came into the game for Tolentino. After a Martinez walk and a single to left by sophomore center fielder Malissa Nielsen (Palm Desert H.S.), and the bases were full of Roadrunners with two outs as freshman third baseman Rebecca Alford (Thermal Coachella Valley) grabbed a bases loaded walk to score Madrid from third base, making the score 4-1.

Unfortunately, that would be all of the scoring for Desert on the afternoon as the Coyotes added three more runs in the top half of the sixth.
