COD Softball struggles in double header against the Larks, 15-0 & 11-1

COD (2-16) welcomed in the Hesston Larks (15-9) from Kansas and struggled in both contest, falling in game one 15-0 in five innings and falling in game two, 11-1.

Freshman second baseman Jada Toland (Indio Shadow Hills) went 3 for 5 over both contests, scoring the Roadrunners lone run on the afternoon, in the fourth inning of game two. Sophomore left handed starting pitcher Amanda Martinez (Indio H.S.) went 2 for 5 in over two games and was unfortunately, saddled with both losses in the circle.

Hesston opened up the scoring in the top of the first, adding a run, then adding two more in the top of the second and two more in the top of the third before chasing the Roadrunners starter.

Sophomore right handed relief pitcher Yizel Nunez (Beaumont H.S.) came in to try and stop the bleeding, but couldn't stop the Larks bats, surrendering ten runs, nine earned, on ten hits, walking two and striking out three.

The Larks would add five more runs in the top of the fourth and five more in the top half of the fifth.

Desert would grab two hits in this contest as Martinez led off the bottom of the first with a triple to center and Toland hit a one out singled to right in the bottom of the fourth.

In game two, Hesston brought out the bats early as they put up a five spot on the Roadrunners in the top of the first. Then the Desert starter, Martinez, settled down as she shut out the Larks lineup for the next three innings.

The Roadrunners would finally push a run across in the bottom of the fourth to bust up the shutout. Toland would lead off the inning with a double to center and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Martinez. Sophomore short stop Taylor Stone (Palm Desert H.S.) would punish a one out single to center, scoring Toland from third base, making the score 5-1.

Unfortunately, the Larks would add another run in the top of the fifth and five more runs in the top of the seventh.
